Also known as super- or ultra-zoom cameras, these are styled like SLR cameras and offer nearly the same level of manual control and image quality, but without the SLR mechanism or the opportunity to change lenses - instead coming with a fixed zoom lens. Consequently, sub-SLRs fill the market between compacts and SLRs.
