Strengths: On a full frame camera (mine is a Canon 5D) this is an amazing lens. Yes, there is distortion, especially at the 12mm emd, but what do you expect? If you are using it for architecture/buildings, remember to leave enough room all round for correction of receding verticals later. If you are of a portly frame. or have Prince Charles ears, be careful not to get them in the frame - it really is that wide! It is the only non-Canon lens I possess.
Weaknesses: None that I have found. There IS a lens cap in spite of previous review. It is attached to the ring which protects the end of the barrel of the lens, and the whole shebang has to be removed (obviously)to take photos.
Overall: Brilliant for wacky close-ups, for interesting building shots (remember the caveat to leave space round the subject for correction in post-processing.) I wouldn't part with it.
Strengths: The lack of distortion even at 12mm is amazing considering. OK so it is there but allot lot less than you would expect.
Weaknesses: Build quality could be better. But for the price what would you expect? Lens cap!
Overall: When I was shooting with the four thirds Oly I had the 7-14mm (14-28mm). I loved it. And when I decided to change to the canon 5D I had heart wrenching moments when I didn't want to let that wide angle go.
So after trying out the Canon 14mm, being banned from hessops for offensive language to staff when I was told the price I searched the net for users reviews.
I'd read good and bad about the Sigma 12-24mm. Bad reports were mainly down to bad copies. I took the plunge and bought one for just under £500.
I have never looked back since! Great lens, lots of fun. A bad choice IMO if you have a crop sensor as something like the Sigma 10-20mm would suit you better. But for fullframe this lens is dot on!
