Loads of settings to play with as well as the simple auto settings. | | Weaknesses: "Only" six mega pixels, but it is enough for my use. | | Overall: Reliable, hard wearing piece of kit. Great for people like me, who are new to the digital SLR arena. I dont recommmend this but it got knocked off the kitchen counter onto hard tiles and survived 100% intact. As I say not recommended, but gives an idea of how tough it is. |

 | | | Posted: 14/11/06 | | 'FANTASTIC INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL SLR'S' | | Strengths: Great image quality, images look good straight from camera, Fast AF, Good compromise between being compact and having a good grip. Takes SD memory cards, good if you are upgrading from a compact, but some pros who like CF might be dissapointed as they have to get new cards. The Kit lens is OK, with quiet focusing due to nikons Silent wave motor technology. The screen is clear and sharp with a good level of contrast. The supplied battery will easily do 800 shots. On a three day holiday, i took 1200 shots, and it still wasn't flat. | | Weaknesses: No depth of field preview. Advanced functions such as AF mode, metering, etc. hidden in the menu, supplied software only offers basic controls and can only output Raw files as JPG's.
6 may seem a bit poor to some with the introduction of the 10 megapixel SLR' | | Overall: A fantastic introductory SLR, it has everything you need for photography at a sensible price. Image quality is excellent.
With the 10 megapixel slrs now out, this camera can be had at a discounted price. I can thoroughly recommend it. |

| | Weaknesses: None really for an entry level DSLR.
| | Overall: Best entry level camera when released, it does all the basics and more. |

 | | | Posted: 30/03/06 | | 'BRILLIANT SLR' | | Strengths: Nikon went for SD cards with this, which is perhaps the best choice for memory cards (as I has two already). Cheap for an SLR, but not in a bad way though as its priced at the right level for those getting into digital SLR cameras. Manual and automatic modes | | Weaknesses: 6 megapixel sensor is a bit low for dSLRs these days. As the ThinkCamera review says, the included software is horrible. | | Overall: Naturally you get what you pay for with the D50, so don't be expecting the fanciest camera you've ever seen. But for an entry into the world of SLR or shooting in RAW (NEF), the Nikon D50 is perfect! |

 | | | Posted: 09/03/06 | | 'DOES THE JOB ITS DESIGNED FOR' | | Strengths: Supremely usable Instant click action | | Weaknesses: No flash sync connection Below-par software | | Overall: I like this camera more than I expected to, given that it is an entry-level offering and my normal workhorse is a D2X, which is hardly a fair comparison. It is easy to use as an SLR, giving good control and produces good quality images. In any case, most of my dislikes were generally solved using the options provided within the menu |

 | | | Posted: 16/02/06 | | 'GREAT INTRODUCTORY SLR' | | Strengths: A lot of SLR features at a low price (for SLRs). Nice styling, compatible with all Nikon lenses - of which there is lot | | Weaknesses: The lenses that come in the camera bundle aren't too good, but you can buy body only. Menu system is a bit fiddly | | Overall: Nice update to the D70, its lighter and smaller, got a lot of useful scenes and features. Shame about the lens bundle though |
