Along with the Image Authentication software, Nikon has released Camera Control Pro which allows users to control an SLR remotely from PC. It is the spiritual successor to Nikon's Capture 4 Camera Control (what a mouthful), that was released back in 2003, and offers a lot more functionality.
Once you connect your camera to your computer, either through USB, FireWire or WiFi, you can use the software to control the camera using a simulated LCD panel that performs the same function as the camera's LCD.
Nature photographers will be able to use the system to set up cameras closer to their prey, or in locations that are too dangerous to stay in for a prolonged period of time -edges of volcanoes, shark infested waters or schools for example. The software and camera collectively can even be set up for security uses.
Once an image has been taken it can be shown immediately on a PC screen using the “Viewer” function. This allows you to quickly scan through captured images, display at various sizes, show focus areas and delete.
Compatible cameras are the Nikon D1 series, the D2 series, D200, D100, D70 series and D50. Its Windows only and will be released in July 2006 for an RRP of £29.99
