Just before the Photokina rush, Olympus has served up another newcomer to its extensive range of compact camera designs. The new Olympus µ [mju:] 1040 is a slimline metal 10 megapixel model, measuring just 16.5mm at its thinnest end. Despite the size, it's packed with handy features, like a 38-114mm equivalent zoom, a 2.7” LCD screen, advanced face detection and shadow adjustment technologies and intelligent auto mode, which selects the right mode for the subject matter.
Once again, Olympus turns a high-ISO boost into 'Digital Image Stabilisation', but offers no optical or mechanical stabilisation system. However, the TruePic III image processor will write image files to xD or microSD cards and there's a 30frame per second VGA mode too.
