It always happens at the worst possible time. You are out in the wind and the rain taking potentially the best photos you've ever taken (I think this all the time and i'm regularly disappointed but anyway) but when you return home you discover the files are gone and the card is corrupted. Thankfully, Sony have come to our aid with a new free tool.
This service allows recovery of images and data which has been lost of deleted from Sony's Memory Sticks. The tool requires user to register the model name and serial number before it can be downloaded. Then once a Memory Stick is plugged in, there are seven simple steps where files are verified, fixed and then saved. Files that can be recovered include .jpg, .mpg and .mp4.
It is compatible with all Sony Memory Sticks sold since 1998, but success depends on the level of corruption and if data has later been overwritten. So if you have accidentally formatted your card there is a good chance that photos can be recovered, but if you fill the card with images and then go to recover it is likely they will be gone.
Again, the tool is free to download, if you have a Memory Stick of any variety, but is Windows only. Click here to go to the Data Rescue Service website.
