Nikon Coolpix S52, S52c, P80

Nikon has just announced a trio of new products in its Coolpix range.

Its new £299.99 Coolpix P80 is part of the Performance range. It's a new superzoom design - the first from Nikon since the Coolpix 8800 - with an 18x optical zoom backed up by a 10 megapixel sensor. The image stabilised lens (equivalent to 27-486mm equivalent in 35mm format) is capable of focusing on subjects that are as close as 1 cm, while the EXPEED processing and sensor allow potentially images at a sensitivity of ISO 6400.

The prosumer-shaped Coolpix P80 features a 2.7cm LCD rear panel and an electronic viewfinder. It can be used in a range of creative settings, including 15 scene modes, automatic and manual modes. There are also a slew of in-camera post-processing options, including D-Lighting and 'Optimize Image' controls, as well as monochrome-only imaging modes.

The S52 and S52c join Nikon's Style series, and feature a wave-surface design together with a range of creative feature, such as D-Lighting, face-priority autofocus, optical lens shift vibration reduction and nine megapixel sensors. Like all current Nikon designs, the S52/S52c are built on a backbone of the EXPEED digital processing suite, which helps the cameras to reach ISO 3200 sensitivity. Both cameras also sport a 3x optical Nikkor zoom. The principle difference between the S52 and S52c is that the S52 lacks Wi-Fi connectivity and - at 92mm - is also slightly less wide than the S52c. The S52c can also interface with 'my Picturetown', Nikon's online photos storage and sharing site. The price for the S52 is still to be confirmed, but the S52c is expected to retail for £299.99 and will be available in June. Both models are finished in 'plum black'.
