ACD Systems have announced updates to their two main pieces of software, ACDSee 8 Photo Manager and ACDSee Pro Photo Manager, both of which are photo management software. Obviously the Pro version is targeted more towards professional photographers, and helping them with their daily workflow. Both updates mainly concern adding RAW support for more cameras, but at the same time attempt to improve the speed and performance of the programs.
ACDSEE 8.1 Photo Manager
This update adds RAW support for more cameras including the Canon EOS Digital Rebel and the Nikon D50, and over 50 feature improvements have been made across the program. A full list of cameras supported is here.
ACDSEE 8 Photo Manager is aimed more towards the amateur end of the photography market giving users the ability to keep track of their photos, edit them if needed and then publish them, whether it is as Flash slideshows to music, online galleries, burnt to CD, or printed out.
The upgrade is free to existing customers from the ACDSee support center, with the English update available immediately. The full version can be bought for around $49.99, around £27.
ACDSEE Pro Photo Manager
The Pro version of the management software has been updated a lot more, mainly in terms of speed and performance when processing RAW files. A lot more cameras are now supported including the Nikon D200 and D2H and the Minolta A200 (the full list is here), and EXIF metadata is now preserved when converting RAW files into JPEG or TIFF files, which makes things a lot easier when sorting files.
Other than increased speed, the main improvement over the non-pro version above is Pro's “compare images” function which allows you to quickly compare multiple photographs in a variety of ways to find the best photo. In a move that will benefit users who use the software a lot, the interface is highly customizable.
Again, the upgrade is free to existing customers, and the full version can be bought for $129.99 - £70. |
