Samsung new quartet make rivals green with NV | | |
|
High Definition seems the watchword of this year's Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, with a raft of companies producing 'HD' compact cameras.
First out the starting gates is Samsung, with its £249 NV24HD. The 10 megapixel compact can also record 30 fps video in 720p (720 line, progressive scan standard… akin to Sky HD broadcasts) and comes complete with an HDMI connection and the facility to control Samsung HDTV sets. The NV24HD will also feature a 2.5” OLED screen (OLED technology is brighter, faster responding and less power consuming than conventional LCD screens). The new camera also features Samsung's Dual Picture Stabilisation system, which is claimed to integrate both optical and digital image stabilisation techniques.

The Dual Picture Stabilisation system is also featured on the new NV40, a sleek 10 megapixel model with 3x optical zoom lens, Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) and Red-Eye Fix. The NV40 also sports an intelligent 2.5” LCD screen, which automatically detects environmental lighting and adjusts the screen brightness for optical image viewing. The £199 camera will be available in February.
Also out in February is the £179 NV30. This model looks similar to the NV40, but is an eight megapixel design with ISO 3200 capability, but no Dual Picture Stabilisation.
The £149 NV4 is also an eight megapixel compact design, which sports Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) system, the Red-Eye Fix technology and a 3x optical zoom. The slimline silver body also houses a SRS pseudo surround sound effect, and can play music and movies too!
