Epson new technology LCD touchscreen

Epson Imaging Devices Corporation today announced the development of an all-in-one liquid-crystal display with an integrated cover and touch panel. This new LCD takes advantage of the company's Photo Fine Vistarich wide viewing angle technology, which is said to enable it to produce useful images even when viewed from 90 degrees from the top, bottom, left, or right.

While still a long way from appearing in any specific product, Epson Imaging Devices has developed all-in-one LCDs in which the liquid-crystal panel, cover, and touch panel are combined without an air gap. This prevents loss of brightness and contrast. The newly developed displays are said to enable improved visibility and greater strength in a slimmer, more compact design.

Epson Imaging Devices hopes to exhibit two prototype touchscreen liquid-crystal displays (a three-and-a-half and a seven-inch design, both 480x800pixel resolution samples) at the Epson Group booth at FPD International 2007, held from October 24 to 26 at Pacifico Yokohama, Japan.

We often get behind the scenes previews of new technology like this. With all the shouting about three-inch LCD screens on the back of cameras today, we think it's good to see what tomorrow may bring.
