The Theme:
Movement.
Following on from previous rounds, we thought that this time we'd open up the playing field a little more with a slightly more broad subject.
Now you may be thinking "Movement - ah, I know, I'll move my camera a bit..." But that may just not quite cut the mustard.
Get your thinking caps on, and get submitting - you may want to use the caption box when submitting an image to explain your ways of thinking and/or your technical process to achieve results.
What you need to know:
Round 3 of our Photographer of the Year competition brought some amazing entries. We challenged you to capture "Colour" - many of you did just that and Michael Styles won himself an Olympus E400 for his amazing colouful plumes of smoke!.
Now it's time to get really serious - time for round 4.
The special (modified) rules:
For this round there will be a maximum of five entries per member. Last time it was three, now we're upping it slightly to five. The simple reason for this is that we believe there's such a huge capacity to take a vast range of images that you ought to have a lot more chance of winning!
Beware, when entries close, if you have 6 or more pictures submitted under your id then we will disqualify your entries - we need to keep it fair for everyone. If you submit too many by accident or change your mind then dont panic - you can always delete the other pictures (Any problems then contact the site admin.)
Oh and don't even think of using multiple accounts.
Entries are open now and close Monday 6th August. All pictures must be taken between now and the closing date. If you're going to submit last minute then we recommend submitting the day before - the gallery could close any time on the 6th you see!
Whadaya mean Movement?
As always - it's up to you. We're leaving this as wide open as we can.
If you stop for a moment then you'll see just how much movement there is going on around you. Be this as a physical movement, or the notion of a 'movement' as an idea - there is a huge capacity for the implication of the word.
Perhaps by standing still you can capture movement in an original, meaningful way with your camera... We don't mind - perhaps you want to go wild and throw your camera around. If you come up with the goods then we want them in the competition gallery!
Some suggestions:
- Check out the article on Long Exposure Photography and get some ideas there
- Take a look at the images on this page - they show various ways in which movement may be suggested or present to produce a final image.
- See what other people put up. Experiment. Try to think outside the box. If you submit 3 'standard' images, then why not submit a further 2 that are more experimental, even if they're "not as good".
The Prize:
Last month was extraordinary. We gave away an Olympus E400 and the entries flooded in. This time we're going one better and moving things up a notch...

First place
The winning picture by members' votes will earn its photographer a brand new Olympus E-410 DSLR. The smallest 10 million pixel DSLR out there! That's a step up from the E400 kits we've been giving away in previous rounds! That got your attention?!

Runners Up - This is where things get even more fun! We have 2 (yes two) Olympus [mju] 770 SWs to give away.
Now one of them will be given to the photographer whose image places 2nd by member votes.
The other will be awarded by editorial decision for an image that is deemed to be outstanding in response to the brief. This does not mean that it needs to be the best image in the world. It just needs to be an image that the ThinkCamera team feel has responded intuitively to the 'Movement' brief.

Remember that you don't have to enter to vote - any member can vote. But if you didn't enter then you have no chance of our top prize - why not enter the next one?
