Kodak New Year releases

kodak easyshare v1003, v803 and c653
L-to-R: Kodak EasyShare V1003, V803 and C653

Also at this year's CES Kodak has been busy announcing new products, amongst which are three new cameras - the EasyShare V1003 and V803, and the C653.

EasyShare V1003 and V803
Kodak's V range of cameras is a bit confusing, half the range being innovative dual lens cameras like the v610 and v570, and the other half being the rather plain in comparison single lens cameras like the v603. Unfortunately, the V1003 and V803 are both members of the latter group with a single 3x optical lens and pretty standard specification. The V1003 has a 10MP sensor and the V803 has an 8MP and both have digital Image Stabilisation rather than the physical stabilisation modes that are starting to pop up on compacts now.

But rather than being aimed at feature-hungry photographers, the cameras are for those who want “fun” instead. Both have a new Share button that allows you to easily print off and share your photos (with other Easyshare printers) and save them as Favourites, for easy access when you are showing your camera off. Also, nothing says fun than ridiculous colours, and the cameras don't disappoint. The V1003 and the V803 are available in 9 and 8 different shades of black, blue, pink, purple and red so that you can choose the colour that best suits you (no green for my jealous nature however). You can see what the camera looks like in all shades on the Kodak website. The design itself is a bit uninspiring however, with the elegant design of the dual lens cameras replaced with a curvier shape.

The V1003 (specification) will be out in March for $249.95 and the V803 (specification) slightly earlier in February for $199.95.

EasyShare C653
In the entry-level market is the C653 which offers 6MP photography and a 3x optical zoom and digital Image Stabilisation (taking the form of higher sensitivity). Being beginner friendly it has 20 scene modes, the most interesting of which is “Panorama Stitch” that makes it very easy to put three shots together in a long panorama and it also has on-camera editing features. The design is unassuming which suits its entry-level nature and the price is similarly low at $129.95 (no UK prices yet). The EasyShare C653 is available immediately. Camera specification.
