Obviously, the best place to get feedback on your pictures is the ThinkCamera gallery but if you want one to one time with an expert giving you a candid appraisal of your portfolio you might want to check out Vision 2006, run by the BJP.
This is an annual event that brings together aspiring photographers. This year it features guest speakers with such a wealth of talent as Anders Peterson (who became famous for his gritty pictures from a Hamburg bar in the 1960s), Fabrica (Benetton's communication research centre which seeks out new talented photographers) and Terry Steeley (Photoshop Guru). There will be talks by all these people and more along with specialist advice from industry experts and careers advisers on how to break into photography as a career.
One of the highlights for aspiring snappers will be 15 minute sessions with picture editors, art buyers and other professionals who will give you a candid appraisal of your portfolio. Just take your pictures along and remember to take a thick skin with you sometimes the advice can be very frank
Slots will be limited so you are advised to book in advance.
Vison 2006 takes place at The Bridge, London SE1 and is on 10th November. British Journal of Photography website
