Canon Pixma printers

Canon has announced four new additions to its Pixma range of All-in-One printers: The MP530, MP460, MP180 and the MP160. All-in-Ones are designed to cut down on space required by printers and photocopies by offering all the features in one piece of kit. In the case of the Pixmas, and nearly every other all-in-one printer available, this means printing, scanning and copying.

As well as offering new sleek, space-saving designs, the new products all offer Canon's ChromaLife100 system for fade-resistant prints for 100 years and FINE Engineering print-head technology for fast printing and high quality (FINE standing for the pretty catchily named Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering). Details of all four printers are below along with price details converted from US Dollars (official UK pricing details coming soon)

MP530
Marketed more for home offices and small businesses than at photographers, the MP530 adds more functionality by adding a Fax machine to the standard All-in-One functions. Individual ink tanks are used to reduce the problem of ink waste and two black cartridges are used, one for black and white text and one for colour. Maximum resolution is 9600 x 2400 and RRP is around £110

MP460
The MP460 is a more general All-in-One printer offering a resolution of 4800 x 1200, 4” x 6” borderless printing and a touch-dry finish of merely 52 seconds. The printer allows direct printing with PictBridge and memory card slots. RRP around £70

MP180
This is the more photo orientated of the four, with direct printing of all photo sizes from passport to 8.5 x 11 (with up to 8 x 10 being borderless. The resolution is 4800 x 1200 and it can print up to 17 A4 colour prints per minute. RRP around £60

MP160
Finally there is the budget offering, the MP160. The description is hardly fair on it though as it offers all the usual functions, four colour printing, the 4800 x 1200 resolution and PictBridge. RRP around £50.

Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss
While Canon is at it with new releases there is also the addition of Semi-Gloss photo paper to the paper range. This paper gives a warm luster or pearl finish to prints, giving a traditional look. The paper is available in packs of 50 sheets for 4 x 6 and 20 sheets for 8 x 10, 8.5 x 11 and 13 x 19.
