Fujifilm FinePix F20

Another day, another camera - this time a new compact from Fujifilm. The FinePix F20 is the latest addition to Fujifilm's high-end range of compacts, aiming to be an affordable family camera that offers high quality photos.

The F20 intends to do this by including its 'Real Photo Technology', a set of systems to improve the quality of photos produced while reducing the noise. Sensitivity levels have been bumped up to a maximum of ISO 2000 for night-time photography and this is linked with the usual 'Picture Stabilisation' technology. 'i-Flash' (standing for intelligent flash, perhaps this is what the i means in everything else?) is a system that controls flash output and exposure to make photos taken with flash look more natural. Finally the 'Dual Shot' mode that was introduced with the unashamedly girl-marked inclined Z3 is on the F20, a system that takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without to help you choose the best one.

In terms of technical details the F20 has a 6.3MP sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5inch LCD. The camera is pretty quick at turning on and taking photos, 1.4s and 0.01s respectively, and there are 15 scene modes. The camera thankfully has a traditionally styled compact design, meaning it may actually be good quality (rather than those more concerned with style).

The camera will be released September 2006 and pricing details will be released nearer the time.
