Sony's new Cyber-Shots

Sony-DSC-S780

Sony has expanded its range of digital compacts with eight new cameras across the board. The company has even launched a whole new line, and added models to several Cyber-Shot ranges.

First out is the new S-Series, made up of two models at launch. The entry-level Cyber-Shot S750 is a 7.2 megapixel slim compact with face detection, a 2.5” LCD screen, a high (1250) ISO setting in place of image stabilisation, a multi-point autofocus mode and a 3x optical zoom lens. The Cyber-Shot S780 has a similar specification, but with an 8.1 megapixel sensor.

The popular W-Series range has been increased with new models too. The DSC-W170 is a 10.1 megapixel camera with a 28-140mm equivalent zoom, and the DSC-W150 is an 8.1 megapixel camera with a 30-150mm equivalent zoom. Both feature a 2.7” LCD and eye-level optical viewfinder. Two further models - the 8.1 megapixel DSC-W130 and the 7.2 megapixel DSC-W120 sport 4x optical zoom and 2.5” LCD screens. All four models now feature the 'smile shutter' mode, which can be set to 'look' for adult or children's faces, Super SteadyShot image stabilisation and an ISO 3200 mode, dynamic range enhancement, and intelligent scene recognition, which automatically selects the right scene mode for the photographic situation and can even provide bracketing across the modes. All four will be available in black and silver. The DSC-W120 will also be sold in blue and pink, the W130 will have an additional pink finish, while the W150 and W170 will also come in champagne gold and red.

Sony has also announced a 10.1 megapixel DSC-T300 digital camera (which replaces the DSC-T200), with the accent on technological solutions to photographic problems. This features Sony's new intelligent scene recognition (iSCN) system, which defines the right mode for the photographic subject and bracket the mode too. The camera sports a widescreen, 3.5” touch screen LCD, a 5x optical zoom lens, face recognition with 'smile shutter' mode, with adult and child face priority, Super SteadyShot image stabilisation and an ISO 3200 mode, dynamic range enhancement, and a Bionz processing engine, more commonly used in Sony's DSLR range. The camera can output images to an HDTV and produce slide shows, with musical accompaniment. The camera will be available in red, black and silver.

Finally, the Cyber-Shot DSC-H10 replaces the DSC-H3. The eight megapixel camera is designed to be pocketable, yet sports a 3” LCD, a 10x optical zoom and long-range flash. It has continuous auto-focus and features high shutter speeds and low shutter lag times. Once again, the DSC-H10 sports Super SteadyShot image stabilisation and ISO sensitivity to ISO 3200, dynamic range enhancement and 1080 HD output.

All these products will be available in the next few months, UK prices are all to be confirmed.
