Sony 007 camera

Sony 007 James Bond Collection T50

Advertisers love the chance to get their product a movie tie-in. Every big new release spawns a huge amount of McDonalds Happy Meal sponsorship, “Film” editions and other totally unrelated marketing and now the upcoming Bond film, Casino Royale, is the latest to be affected. In the deal announced today Sony have released a special “Bond Collection” of its most popular products, with 007 branded laptops, cameras and other spy gadgetry.

The camera in question is the Cyber-Shot T50. It has long been one of Sony's most stylish compacts so it makes sense to put this with the sauve charm of James Bond. There aren't any internal changes to the “common” T50 you can find in Jessops as it still has the same 7.2MP sensor, 3 inch LCD and non-protruding 3x optical lens. It is on the outside that there are the changes, with the 007 logo featuring on the front, and a special carrying case. Both camera and the case can come in three colours: 007 silver, 007 black and 007 red.

As this is a movie tie-in and it's making an already premium product even more premium, you will have to pay more money for the courtesy of having a special James Bond camera - almost $100 more (it retails at $599.95 from the Sony Style shop), but do remember you will get a case too. The run is limited production so if you buy one it is pretty special and the James Bond brand is very much respected. While the real James Bond in the film will probably have a tiny super-sleek camera, the T50 is just as good and is better than a Ford Mondeo at least.

Alternatively you can try and win the 007 T50 and the other Bond Collection items (a VAIO TX kit and a UX kit, each with laptop, camera and other spy toys) online. As the film is heavily based around a card game, so is the competition - try your hand at Poker, Blackjack, Slots and Roulette to win. More details about the collection and the competition is here.
