Jobo Giga Vu Pro evolution

The Jobo Giga Vu Pro evolution is the latest incarnation of Jobo's mobile photo storage device, designed as a way to store images safely and reliably for pro-photographers when more memory space is required. It is a digital photo album with an internal hard-drive to allow photo storage, and a memory card slot for CompactFlash cards and Microdrives. Card adaptors are available for all the other types of memory card. The hard-drive comes in three sizes: 40GB, 80GB and 120GB, and to put these sizes in everyday terms the 120GB card can hold about 40,000 photos, 20,000 songs or 100 hours of video.

Although it can act as a portable media player for photos, videos and music, the Giga Vu is aimed more for photo functionality, with real RAW file decoding and JPEG and TIFF support too. It can display all of the EXIF data for RAW files, histogram and channel data and for RAW and JPEG photos it can "power zoom" right in to the actual size of the image (i.e each pixel of the screen has a single pixel of the image in it). All this is made possible with the Giga Vu's huge 4" LCD, and a TV-out connection allows you to connect it up to a TV, including plasmas and HDTVs.

Other connectivity includes a Hi-Speed USB connection that can transfer 1GB in 2.5 minutes, and an USB OTG feature that can connect the Giga Vu to other USB cameras, players and printers, and its got PictBridge too. The Giga Vu can go Wi-Fi too, with a CompactFlash adaptor that is sold seperately.

For more information on Jobo click here. The Giga Vu will be available in April, the 40GB version will have an RRP of €499 and the 80GB €699. No RRP is set yet for the 120GB.

Obviously not the Jobo evolution as its not out yet, but does anyone have the original? Or a similar?

I can see its quite useful as a portable media player yes, but as a photo storage and viewer, would it be any good?
