Olympus has released a new digital camera that is both waterproof and shockproof, making it perfect for extreme sports and activities. The 720 SW is shock resistant to falls of about 1.5m (according to military testing) and waterproof to depths of 3m, which can be pushed to 40m with the corresponding underwater case.
As a camera the 720 SW is quite advanced with a 7.1 mega-pixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD. It boasts Olympus' new BrightCapture technology which increases light sensitivity of the sensor both on the LCD for setting up shots and at time of capture reducing the need for as much flash - which can ruin the colour and detail of landscape photos. This means that when you are hanging off that mountain snapping away, the beautiful sunset will look just good as when you frame it.
The camera has 24 scene modes, including special underwater ones, and takes xD memory cards. For a waterproof camera, the camera is quite slim and stylish, with a typical compact metal finished look, which is available in Steel Silver, Dusky Pink and Polar Blue. It will retail for around £300 from March 2006.
