This is a pic I could live with 'on the wall'.
There is a dreamlike quality about it and it balances beautifully. Some might criticise the slight lack of detail on the other side of the water, but for me this puts the emphasis on the foreground and the subject.

Thanks for the great comments. This is in fact a shot that I have produced in poster size and when it is blown up there is a suprising amount of detail. This however is lost in the size limitations and compression requirements of this site and as a new member on the block I have to admit to being disappointed as to how this affects the presentation and quality of not only mine but other people's work. I think you have to be very careful with the type of shot you post here: It is not a site that suits for instance large intricate landscapes. But hey, that is just my opinion!! The real name for the shot is 'Arctic Tern' which is the name on the boat which, at this res, can't be read!

This looks like a high definition photo to me. How much post processing did you do? I'd love to get a photo like this!

Great pic! love the border, increases the drama, I would like to have taken it, too. Be interested to see your reply to AJL.

Thanks Andrea and Harry for your comments. Very little post shot work here - comes from shooting film transpariencies for 40 years plus I suppose and I like to nail the shot in the camera wherever possible. Shot in RAW with a standard Hoya UV(0)filter; PS edit; no masks or layers used, just a tweak of the highlights/shadows and clarification to better define the clouds in particular; a touch of de-saturation and USM at 85. Crop and frame. I think what helps here is the blue/red contrast that lifts the boat forward. Although I shoot in bursts of three this was not a bracketed shot for HDR (High Dynamic Range).

Brilliant photo. Really I mean it. I just hope I haven't got to wait 40 years before I can take a shot like this!
