Being a newbie to photography but knowing I wanted a Digital SLR I started reading reviews, checking out prices and discussing the various pros/cons of different cameras I decided to buy the Pentax K100D. The main reason for this, after being advised by a knowledgable friend, was the features and the fact that it has anti-shake in the camera body.
Price was also a consideration. I was lucky enough to get this with a 1gb card/bag/batteries & charger and SMC 18-55mm lens for £300.
At the moment I am still learning to use the manual features but when set to auto the camera is good anyway.
This makes it a good, imo, camera for a first digital SLR.
Being 6-ish MP it doesn't have the biggest CCD but unless you want to print really large images this is not an issue.
If you want to check out some pics from the camera you can see some that I have taken at

If you have any questions I will do my best to respond / help
