I Everybody, ime new on tonight and i keep getting error message 99 when i try to take a shot with my Canon EOS40D . I thought that the Canon Battery BP-511A had gone so, i bought a new one and it is still coming up with the same error. The battery works all the other things on the camera apart from taking the photographs. Ive had the camera over a year now and when it says error 99 it just says switch the camera off and back on again. I use only Canon Lenses on my Camera , it is puzzeling.
I would welcome some advise if anybody as experienced this before.
IIRC this is the 'other error' in the Canon list of errors with many causes. One of the most common causes seems to be communication between the camera and the lens. One fix is to clean the contacts on both the camera and the lens with a pencil rubber (eraser) and see if that fixes it other than that it sounds like a trip to a Canon repair centre.
