He had just finished a night shift and was falling asleep on me - doesn't say much about me as a photographer does it?

I don't know? You have just captured him perfectly and I can see behind his glasses that his eyes are still open, lol! So you must have done something right to be able to take this shot! I've noticed by others comments how impressed they are with the lighting too!
