This is one of the most creative and interesting images that I've seen on here in quite some time.

It makes me wonder how beautiful this place would have been hundreds of years ago, and the way in which the current landscape intersects this slice of history has real visual impact.

Particularly that plume of smoke - really adds to the poignancy and layering of the image.

Only slight gripe is exposure/digi-colour of the sky... If you have a RAW file then make some tweaks and corrections.

Like the smoke comng from the chimney, was it taken a long time ago?

Hi, I took this photograph last Sunday 25th. November. It was taken as a jpeg. I haven`t used raw yet as I am  new to DSLR photography and don`t quite understand how it works. I hope by being a member of this web site I will be able to expand my knowledge. I feel really honoured that my picture was chosen and can`t wait to tell everyone, you have certainly made my day, thank you.

You may be new to digital, Bill, but I get the impression that you've certainly dabbled in photography before!

RAW files are a way of post-processing your data essentially. The way the information is stored enables for a greater amount of manipulation to occur - including adjusting the exposure after the photo is taken without 'damaging' the image as you would with, say, a jpeg image.

If your camera offers RAW+jpeg simultaneously then this is widely used. It's a good way to quickly preview your shots on a PC (as the jpegs load fast), plus working on RAW can be quite time consuming...

RAW compatibility has been known to be an issue - each manufacturer tending to have their own file format of what is essentially the same data.

People on here can help you with any queries anyway, and I'm sure there's plenty of articles to help you along your way.

 Hi,

I have taken photographs for a long while but it has always been point and shoot. The last camera I used before I got my Nikon D40 was an HP photosmart.                                I tried a few shots on raw since I read your review of my picture but when I tried to upload them from my printers card slot it wouldn`t load. I will read my manual and see what it says.

Anyway, I must admit I like my photo of the fountain but I think it was a bit of luck that it turned out like it did. I just thought I would climb the steps so that I could look down and take my picture and it worked.

If you look to the right hand side of the picture, the monument is in honour of Horatio Nelson and as Glasgow Green was where public hangings were carried out that monument was the last thing the condemmed saw before they were executed.

I think this site is so good , I have it now as my home page.
