Ricoh Caplio GX100: Review
Ricoh maintain the reputation for producing fine compact cameras...

Just for the record... the low light image is of AVReview editor Dave Oliver at a recent awards dinner. Taken as a JPEG at ISO1600. Like all the other images, these were simply resized and sharpened for the page and taken using auto WB in all cases.

The only post-processing done otherwise was to remove the details from the awards held in the hands of the person in the fill-flash sample. Because the awards themselves are under strict embargo. So, sorry people... no guessing.

Alan,

Thanks for a great review of what is a superb and very pocketable camera, Ricoh are "the quiet ones" in the digital world, they specialise in good quality compacts that meet the requirements of many serious photographers looking for a backup compact, as well as making good P&S's for everyday use.

I suspect the compact market is getting close to a serious shake up with the impending launch (ever the optimist) of the Sigma DP-1, Canons announcement of CMOS sensors for their compacts and finally, the speculation about a replacement for the 2yr old Ricoh GRD.............intersting times ahead?

For those interested parties, I have posted a set of my Ricoh images taken with both GRD and GX100 cameras, you can see them here:
