I was advised to try and enrol on a City & Guilds Photography course, but none of my local ( Hampshire / Surrey borders ) colleges seem to run these, course 6922 & 6923 I believe.

What other alternatives are there for me ?

Does anyone have any experience & recomendations ?

I want to learn more about camera technique in the broadest terms, in order to improve my photography skills  & picture quality generally.

Thanks.

I had the same idea, but when I rang my local college, they'd stopped doing any photography or digital imaging courses last year

Acuity Training in Guildford Surrey run a one day photo course which is excellent. It covers the camera settings and what they do and composition. There's plenty of time to try out the techniques as well.

There phone number is 01483688488 or their web is www.acuitytraining.co.uk. Although is is targeted at business users it is a great introduction to better photography

Many Thanks Les,

I've checked with them and it is £495 per day in a group !

 Too steep for me !

Can't justify that expenditure...think of all the extra equipment I could buy with that money!

I know that Kingston College runs several courses in photography, at all levels. But that's quite a trek for you. You could also try The Photography School in Reading.

There's now't wrong with the C&G courses though. They are akin to A-Level standard and very thorough.

  Ian,

What do you rhink about a postal course?  What Digital camera mag & Amateur Photographer do a very good course, with lots of online &/or postal back-up, also

The open College of the Arts do a great series of photo courses. Both of these will cost you somewhere around £400-500 each, but they both have easy payment options, &

you can complete the course at your own pace. In each course you are allotted your own individual tutor, who can provide telephone or e-mail help if required.

I would certainly give these serious consideration, Ian, they can be found online, or you could buy the mag for details.

 best of luck,

 Harry J
