Updating my 30D

I am considering updating my Canon 30D to the 40D. Why? I think more pixels would be good for larger prints say A3. And a larger screen with live view which I think would prove useful. I would be very interested in what you guys think. If budget was not a problem I would love a full size s/s sensor and 20+mp. Maybe if I waited a couple of years this would be available for a similar cost. Once again I would be interested in your thoughts on this, and do you think there is a deliberate hold back on technology?

I didn't see any point in upgrading to the 40D, Ok there's a few more pixels and Liveview, but Liveview has limited value and IMO only useful when shooting macro. So I bought a 5D.(actually I should say my wife bought me the 5D)

If I want the extra zoom I use the 30D, but in most instances I use the 5D. I r4ealise the 5D is twice the cost of the 40D, but it's almost a certainty that the 5D mk2 will be announced at Photokina, so watch out for some 5D bargains

Don't forget that the 50D was announced last week. The price Warehouse Express want for it at the moment is crazy much dearer than the US price $1299 vs £1199. On paper this looks like a good camera and the iso 1600 shots on DP review look impressive too. If you need 15mpix then this would be a better bet IMHO than the 40D.
Yeah the Canon EOS 50D was announced last week pre-Photokina... So you never know what else could crop up before the end of this month. I'd say be patient for the time being - even if you end up with a 40D, waiting for the moment may drag the cost down rapidly before the end of the year.

I've come across some people who owned a 40D and they were not very happy with it?

Yeah unofficial 40D sensor alignment problems. Met a number of people that can't get a sharp picture out of it...
