Voting on photos not in competitions
Please give constructive criticism

I thank everyone who takes the trouble to vote on my photos. Good or bad I want the vote. But what I would also like is a bit of constructive criticism. I've posted photos recently and gone back a bit later on to find that someone has voted and they've obviously voted 1 or possibly 2 and in some cases 3. I've also been lucky enough to get some 4 and 5 votes. I really appreciate that people have taken the time to do this but what I'd really like is some constructive criticism. If there is a vote of 1, 2 or 3 then obviously they have thought that the photo could be improved in some way. Please tell me then I can improve (hopefully!) And a little comment on why you've voted 4 or 5 too would be great. I appreciate that it's far too much to ask when voting on competition photos though.

I'm sure everyone else is feeling the same about their photos. So come on, how do you feel when you see that someone has voted for your photo, do you want to know why?

Mike Lowe - is there any way that we could have an email notification if a comment is posted on a photo that you have in the gallery? At the moment you have to trawl through the posts to see if one of them might pertain to a photo you've uploaded.

I have to agree. A number of my photos have recently been voted on, but there are no comments. We can all learn a lot from each others opinions so it people do take the time to vote (and I do really appreciate the fact that they do), then it does not take much longer to add a small comment

I also agree with AyJayEl about the notification of a comment.

I've just noticed that someone has left a comment on an image I uploaded several months ago asking me a question. I hate to think people assume I am ignoring them when I don't get back to them, when I hadn't thought to check.

Or maybe it's our responsibility to go and check on these things occasionally!

Yeah Jo, I agree with you it's our responsibility but it's possible to change the title of the thread and you may not recognise that it is a comment about one of your photos. Who has time to go through every comment on here? (Err, I go through them all but I don't have time. LOL)

Sounds familiar!

Yeah sure!

Click on the "My Forum" tab (top right box after logging in) and you get a series of options - response notification included...

Set your preferences as you wish, and you're done.

I get notifications of every post.

Yes Mike but that relies on you having posted a reply to a message or to have started the thread in the first place. What I am talking about is when someone has started a thread about a photo of yours. You don't know that they have done it until you have checked all the threads. On some sites that I subscribe to, if someone posts a comment about your photo you can opt to always have a notification.

Is that clearer or is it still like mud?

I seeeee - I thought that this did happen....but no...it doesn't.

Looks like some technical development is imminent - there are gallery improvements in progress, but I have no timescale by what will be done when.
