OK, a quick update.

Sony, it seems, is a victim of its own success. The company's marketing team is fresh out of cameras at the moment. This doesn't mean the blogs are off, but does mean three of you won't be getting a knock on the door from the delivery guy just yet, I'm afraid.

We will let you all know what happens, when it happens. And that's likely to be soon (hopefully around mid-June).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Just an update to the update. The cameras will be Sony DSLR-A350, not A300 as originally suggested. So, they may take a little longer to arrive, but they will be a bit better to play with too.

Ooh, even more exciting. No chance of tha 135mm f1.8 they do too I suppose?

The best things are usually worth waiting for.

Gee!

A 350 now!

Wow, wish I hadn't turned my offer down so quickly now!

.

Better get me that  Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4-5.6 lens and fast now Alan.

I've got a fantastic review already written for it.

OK, PR hold-ups, family affairs and everything else out the way, now... it's time to get playing with some cameras!

I need the three reviewers to email me (editor@thinkcamera.com) with their addresses ASAP. We will need to get these cameras out to you in the next day or two and need to know when is a good/bad time to deliver the boxes.

I feel like Santa now. I wonder where I can get one this time of year?

A350 and 18-70mm arrived this morning - battery charging up even as I write this!  So, what's the plan?

You'll know early next week. For now, charge it up and play over the weekend, and let's see some photos.

Enjoy!

Camera received this lunchtime and batteries are now on charge.

The PC is now up and running again (well with limitations)

Very strange problem developed over the past week, windows Vista Ultimate would not load nor would the PC run in safe mode, or indeed from the Vista disk, so was unable to carry out a repair.

The problem appears to be a conflict with Vista and the Sata drivers, even though the PC has run faultlessly for the past 18 months. I'm guessing a recent Vista update has created the problem.

At present I'm running from an oldish Ide drive, but unfortunately I cannot access my Sata drives, or most of my data, as with these connected the PC will not work

I am new to these forum chats. Have been made redundant recently and recovering from shoulder op. Love photography, use a samsung V700 but would love a DSLR as I spend alot more time out and about. Am a keen walker and take hundreds of photos of scouts doing activities as I am a scout leader. Wandering if there are any more "free" uses of DSLR's in the near future? I would love to have a go. Ironically ( although cant afford one) I have been looking at the Sony A350 so looking forward to the write up.

Welcome, Colin! If you haven't seen it already, here are my first impressions of the camera:

http://www.thinkcamera.com/news/article/mps/uan/778

A month or so on, and my mind hasn't changed.  The spontaneous cracking of the LCD was a bit of a disappointment, and I wonder whether Sony did an overkill with the number of megapixels on the sensor.  My gut instinct tells me I'm not getting any more detail than I would from a sensor that had less megapixels: this could be a function of the kit lens though, rather than the sensor.  Still, if I was buying, I'd be taking a very careful look at the A300 which, I gather, has all the functionality of the A350, but with a different sensor and is cheaper.
