I know what your saying Syl but a picture that is good to me and Im happy with stays that way if I dont put it up example....I was out fishing a couple of weeks ago took some pictures of horses behind me in a field I was very happy with picture put it up on fishingmagic and it gets slated ,Im told it needs sky so I get lots of emails with sky photoshopped in ,all of them very good and probably improved my picture no end my point is thats not how it was when I was there ! dont get me wrong I love photoshop ,I love all its tricks but at the same time pictures are memories of places seen and been

Hi Cakey. I do agree with you that there are so many ways of why people do photography and memory is one of the biggest reason. I have hundreds of photographs of my sweet little boy who was disabled and sadly is no longer here with me, but it would be absolutely rude for anyone to come along and tell me how I would improve the image! Photography is all about waiting for that special moment to capture something that you feel, and even on Redbubble there are so many snapshots that no one would want to buy, but it means something to the person and it is recognising that and taking it into account before anyone says anything that is out of context. I am sorry people have given you a rough time over it Cakey, but sometimes you have to stick up for yourself and your work and tell people when they go too far? That is Woody's gripe, that people just don't explain anything about their work, which makes it harder to comment on it appropriately sometimes? Even though Woody has a photograph in his portfolio that has no description about it at all? Anyway, it would be lovely to see some of your sunset and sunrise pictures Cakey Syl

Sorry Cakey. I thought you were kind of asking people to put a sky in, that's the only reason I did it. Did Ron do anything for you? I agree though. Photos are best left as natural as possible sometimes so long as the ingredients are right. You can't polish a .... . PS Syl, can't think of the picture in my gallery you're alluding to, many don't have comments simply because they were used in a posting to illustrate something. The comments will be there in the forum.

Cakey, I felt much the same as you before posting. I posted some photos that i was very happy with on here and some other sites and some of them have been slated (there are a few sites where people tell you very straight what they think and its hard to take at first) but then I posted the same photos on a different site and they received nothing but good reviews. Its all a matter of the viewers taste and you can't please all the people all of the time. At first I wanted to make the changes suggested by others to crop, change saturation, switch it to black and white etc etc... and often found when I did I did not like the image so much as it was not my taste (or my idea). I still welcome the criticism I get but don't always take the advice if its not the direction I want to go. What I find makes an image interesting for me is often the title or the story behind it more than a good composition and technical perfection.

Shouldn't show them too much, Cakey, or they'll find out where all these hot venues are.
Then the circus will arrive.

Peoples views on your images are a good thing and you should take all of them on board, work out what you agree with and then throw out the rest. It's your work and if you enjoy it then that's all that matters. Cakey, I felt much the same as you before posting. CAn I just ask why the RSS feed doesn't work anymore? I have it on my desktop PC but when I came to get it for my lappy it just said the RSS feed doesn't have any style attched to it.

Another technical question! Although my home address is in the UK and I am also a resident I work abroad most of the time so log on from other countries. When it comes to the competions do I qualify as the IP address is probably foreign or do you look at the registered address of entrants.??
|
 |
Well when you enter a comp such as the free give away ones they ask for your address. So I think you should be ok mate.

Best photo software to use.

Hi Roger, Good question - we do look at the address that you have registered with for some competitions, so if you have a non-UK address as your registered one then can I suggest changing it to a UK one. Hope this helps, Monica Editorial & Production

Thanks, I changed it previously to my UK address so can't use that as an excuse anymore for not winning any competions now

I'd like advice on the best Digi SLR for your money!

Is there any chance of having a tab for viewing the 'Top Rated' of an alvum instead of the whole gallery?
